Each legislative session the legislative team, in consultation with our legal team, AZLEA authors and then lobbies the passage of new or amended laws to assists the men and women of law enforcement in the important work that they do.
AZLEA has crafted three bills for 2026- the following are brief summaries:
HB-2691 – Police Officer Bill of Rights and will amend ARS 38-1104- officers will have the right to representation of their choosing. This new language will not impact agencies that have existing labor management agreements. The current role of the representative will remain unchanged.
HB- ( # not yet assigned to a strike-all) -Study Committee during the current session to review and make recommendations on the current effectiveness of existing whistleblowing language along with the appropriate complaint and enforcement process.
HB-(# not yet assigned to a strike-all)- Study Committee -to examine if the current AZ laws provide for equal application of the duty to place law enforcement employees on Brady or Integrity database list. To further discuss the differences (with distinction) between the requirements of Brady vs Rule 15 and the apparent confluence of legal requirements to relegate an employee to a list. These are discovery obligations, but the sigma of placement upon these lists has persistent effects on the careers- both current and future.
AZLEA will be supporting the following 2026 bills:
HB-2108 – Increases the penalties for fleeing from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle operated as defined in current statute.
HB-2602 – Appropriations bill seeking pay increases for DPS Officers.
